I was born, raised, and proudly continue to call Stark County home. After graduating from Tuslaw High School in 1990 with honors, I went on to earn my degree from Walsh University in 1994, graduating Summa Cum Laude, and later completed my Doctor of Dental Surgery at The Ohio State University College of Dentistry in 1998.
After dental school, I returned home to marry my incredible wife, Dawn—though it took a bit of convincing! Together, we’re now the proud parents of two amazing young adults—Chase and Alyssa.
In 2004, I trained with Dr. Victor Sendax, the creator of the mini dental implant, to help our denture patients enjoy a better quality of life. I became an Invisalign® certified provider in 2007 to help adults rediscover the confident smiles of their youth. 2019 was finally the year I added full-sized dental implants for our patients. Patients really appreciate staying in the same office for their dental care.
Over the past 20 years, I’ve been honored to serve the Stark County community through dentistry and beyond. I’m an active member of the American Dental Association, Ohio Dental Association, and Stark County Dental Society. I’ve been recognized in Who’s Who Among Dentists and America’s Top Dentists, and have served on numerous boards, including Phoenix Rising and the Walsh University Alumni Board . I also spent six years as adjunct faculty at the Stark State Dental Hygiene Clinic and currently serve on the Stark State Allied Dental Health Advisory Board.
Community involvement is close to my heart—I try to support every local organization and fundraiser I can. I truly love what I do and the people I serve. Nobody loves going to the dentist, but we treat every patient like family. I’m blessed to work with an amazing team who shares that same commitment.

Dr. Steven Smith was born and raised in Canton, OH, attending St. Michael’s and Central Catholic High School. He spent the next four years at The Ohio State University graduating Magna Cum Laude with a B.S. in Biology. Dr. Smith stayed in Columbus and earned his D.D.S. at The Ohio State University College of Dentistry.
Realizing the importance of further dental education, Dr. Smith spent 2 years at now Cleveland Clinic Mercy Medical Center’s General Practice Residency (GPR). He was the Chief Resident in his second year. He learned advanced training in Esthetics, Root Canals, Implants, Surgery, Fixed and Removable Dentures, and Crown and Bridge. After graduating the Residency, he has been an active faculty member almost every Wednesday afternoon and was the Section of Dentistry Chairman for 10 years.
Dr. Smith is a member of the American Dental Assn, Ohio Dental Assn, Stark County Dental Assn. Dr. Smith was the Stark County Dental Society President in 2021. At the state level, he is a delegate of the Ohio Dental Association, the State’s District II Coordinator, and active member of the Council on Dental Care Programs and Dental Practice and Dental Insurance Working Group.
Since 2016, Dr. Smith has been a board member of the Stark County Humane Society.

Front Office Staff
Becky is one of the first faces you see when arrive at Drs. Henzel and Smith’s office. She has been a part of the front office staff for a total of 13 years, after 30 years of nursing. Becky always feels blessed for the years she spent in nursing and now finds satisfaction in a different capacity as we watch our patients and families grow. Becky is married to her best friend for 39 years and has 2 children and 3 grandchildren, with 2 more grandkids coming in the next year. Becky loves traveling, biking, exploring, reading, her supportive church family and spending time with family and friends.
Front Office Staff
Lisa is the other first face you may see walking into Drs. Henzel and Smith. She has been employed at the office as a front office receptionist for 17 years. Born and raised in Canton, she is married to Dave a civil engineer for 32 years. They have two adult daughters: Kristina – a Physician Assistant who lives in Chicago, and Allison – an Intervention Specialist teacher at Minerva Elementary School. Lisa enjoys traveling, sporting events and designing and making speciality greeting cards in her spare time.

Amy started working for Drs. Bates and Graham in 1983 and have worked at this office for over 35 years. Through the years that she has worked here it has been Drs. Graham and Maxfield, Drs. Graham and Henzel and now, Drs. Henzel and Smith. Amy is a Certified Ohio Dental Assistant and has enjoyed working in the dental field these many years.
Amy has been married to Scott for over 30 years and they have been blessed with 4 beautiful children ranging in ages from 23 to 12.
Amy enjoys cooking, biking, gardening and taking care of her family.
